"Hunting the Fox; Morfydd Owen and the folk song collecting of Lady Ruth Herbert Lewis" is a live musical performance featuring new interpretations of Welsh folk songs collected by Lady Ruth Herbert Lewis. Morfydd Owen arranged two such collections for Herbert Lewis, who was an early pioneer in the use of phonograph recording in the field and a founder member of the Welsh Folk Song Society.

New interpretations of music from the collections will be performed by Gareth Bonello (The Gentle Good), with historical and cultural context provided by Dr Rhian Davies.



Dr Rhian Davies:
Rhian Davies is a historian and curator who specializes in restoring neglected music to the repertoire. Her advocacy for Morfydd Owen has led to a radical reappraisal of the composer’s significance and inspired performances and broadcasts all over the world.
Rhian’s pioneering research has been recognized by Gorsedd Cymru, an Honorary Fellowship from Bangor University, and the John Edwards Memorial Award from the Welsh Music Guild for services to the nation’s music.


Gareth Bonello:
Known professionally as The Gentle Good, Gareth Bonello is a Cardiff-based singer-songwriter and one of Wales’ most acclaimed contemporary folk artists. Renowned for his captivating melodies, intricate guitar work and evocative songwriting, Gareth has won both the Welsh Language Album of the Year and the Welsh Music Prize. His latest album, Elan, is a psychedelic folk-rock portrait of the Elan Valley, written during a year-long residency in an off-grid cottage in the Cambrian Mountains. An accomplished international performer and collaborator, Gareth has appeared at major festivals worldwide and continues to create innovative projects that connect Welsh culture with communities and musical traditions across the globe.
